In 1968 Bollywood’s biggest success was the Dharmendrastarrer Ankhen breaking many box-office records. Its unique, scenic locations, the fast-paced action and the exciting climax was the key mantra. It celebrated it s silver jubilee in 12 theaters, 100 days in 25 cities and set new records in 50 locations.
Initially planned as a low-budget quickie with Dharmendra who had just one release as an action hero, Shola Aur Shabnam. But another film Phool Aur Patthar, a later release, made him a superstar overnight and the director Ramanand Sagar decided to take another look at the project and upped the budgets. The results were well worth the switch.
